The Third Annual BSA 5K RESULTS
The Third Annual BSA 5K RESULTS
Please read this first, the results are below. The third annual BSA 5K was held on March 21, 2015 at the Lion’s Club Municipal Track in El Dorado Arkansas. The day was about as perfect of a day you could ask for with the exception of a a light breeze and some rain. I was asked by several people in the days leading up to our race, “Are you guys still going to have the race if it’s raining…?” or, ” What if it’s raining, what are you going to do…?” I was also posed the question, “Are you going to reschedule the race if it rains…?”
I responded to all three questions the same…”We are the Boy Scouts of America, rainy weather has NEVER kept us down, and it is NOT going to start with our race, and if anyone asks what to do, tell them to show up for the race with rain gear, WE WILL BE THERE!” This answer was met with smiles, and a few OK, see you there’s. We had a great turnout, despite the weather, and had one heck of a good time. Participants responded to our advertisement better this year than in years past and as a result we fielded 84 pre-registered racers! Race registration was also open on the day of the race where we took in another 25 racers to bring our total participants to 109! Now not all of these finished, some stayed home instead of braving the cool rain. Actual count was 93 at the finish line!!! Not too bad at all.
We did change a few things for this year from last including the fish stringers for finish order, a more defined finish funnel, a better result sorting method, and we also instituted some visual stimulus for the runners. Signs displayed when you passed the 1, 2, 3, and 4 kilometer distances, and some showing the 12 points of the Boy Scout law. These signs were available for local businesses and families to proudly sponsor and get their name out there for more customers to see, and for family members to cheer on their scouts that were racing. We changed the shirts up this year, and we really felt the support from local businesses and families this year to make our race a roaring success. Several businesses just gave stuff, water bottles, plastic tumblers, can koozies, and pens were all in the goody bags with the shirts.
I will be updating this post soon with an exact list of all of our race sponsors. The sponsors that come to mind right now are Jason Hardy’s State Farm Insurance, First Financial bank, Dr. Bob Watson, Smackover Pharmacy, HL Frisby Family Sauce co., Melvin’s Discount Pharmacy, SAMA, Trey Co., El Dorado Chemical Company, and many more. (To be updated soon)
Here we go, The Third Annual BSA 5K RESULTS are as follows, and let me first say a heartfelt thank you to my volunteers, and the staff that gave of themselves and their families to put together this great race. Also, I’d like to say thank you to all of our racers too. We were glad to see every one of you and hope to see you again, with more friends, next year. The date will be finalized when our local kiddos go back to school this coming fall so that we know exactly what day the Saturday after our kids get out for spring break here in Union County. That being said, please keep an eye out here at www.get2running.com and at https://www.facebook.com/Get2Running ok, so now, the moment we have all been waiting for, DRUMROLL PLEASE!!!!
